WD my passport ultra 1TB, I/O device error

My WD id detected in my computer, but when i try to open, system shows LOCATION IN NOT AVAILABLE. , d:is not available (the request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

I'm very sorry to hear about your issues with the WD My Passport external drive. :( I'd recommend you to try plugging it to another computer and using a different USB cable to see if that will help. Another thing you should check is the HDD's health and SMART status using WD's Data LifeGuard Diagnostic utility. (Make sure you run the QUICK as well as the EXTENDED test from the tool) Here's a link to it: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=tk8kVf
