I'm switching from my amd fx 6300 and asus m5a97 le r2.0 mobo to i5 4690k and msi z97 PC mate. Will I need to reinstall windows 7 which I'm pretty certain is a retail copy or can it just boot normally after changing mobo and cpu?

Thanks in advance! :)

Solution
You will probably need to reinstall the OS and everything else.
Very small chance that you won't have to, but be prepared for if you do.

a clean install after a major change is recommended.

well, it may (will) run, you know, but there will be many driver conflicts, some restarts from time to time, some lost data... nothing big...

as for the license - if it's retail, then there are no problems, if it were oem, then you would need a new license (because oem is tied to the mobo)...
