I have just bought an EVGA GTX 980 Ti SC and am unable to get my computer to POST.

The Gigabyte GA-X79-UD3 has a short splash screen on power up (little logo and details of keyboard shortcuts to access bios/ boot menu etc.), which seems to display successfully, but stops there, after around 30 seconds I am greeted with a black screen and a blinking text prompt.

I am unable to interact with the splash screen when the 980 ti is hooked up.

By putting back in my old graphics card a GTX 680, this splash screen is fully functional and computer boots as normal.

I'm scratching my head here, the new card certainly seems to be working, is as much as it can show me something on screen. I can even make it show me error messages by removing either the 6 or 8 pin power connector, but beyond that, nothing.

I feel like i am missing something silly here that is preventing me from moving forward, but can't for the life of me figure it out.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Edit - after posting I thought of some additional maybe relevant? information.

Using 2nd PCI-e slot on the board, as Primary cannot be physically accessed due to overly large CPU heatsink.
I removed said heatsink/fan and attached a stock intel cooler to allow access to the primary slot, but the issues remains.

Using a 1000w PSU, meeting the power requirement of the card should be covered.

Gigabyte GA-X79-UD3
Intel i7 3820
16gb RAM
1000w PSU
GTX 680 (working)
GTX 980 ti (not)

Success !

Thanks a bunch guys, I hadn't even considered that it could be an outdated bios.

Now that it is all working, I get to the fun part of tidying up all the cables and downloading all my drivers and software.

Woo !
