Just recently upgraded from a 7870 GHz edition to an r9 290 Tri-X. I used DDU to remove the old drivers. With graphics settings on max, v-sync off, and resolution scale on 100% i get about 30 fps.

my specs:
FX-6100 Black Edition
990fxa-ud3 Mobo
8GB xms3 1333 RAM
r9 290 Tri-X
250 GB 840 EVO
1tb WD Black
1tb Samsung HDD
212 EVO cooler

There are no temp problems or anything

Yeah the CPU does bottleneck the GPU. I had that processor than upgraded to the 2500K and I have a 7950. You can OC that processor to 4GHz easy (at your own risk). I have a delta 10K rpm fan that permitted my 6100 to reach 4.5 GHZ and my 2500K to 5.1 GHZ.

But that 4.5 was not enough to run BF3 at the time (when the game came out) so it forced an upgrade. I averaged 36-48 FPS on BF3 with the 6100....Which indicates an bottleneck. I max BF4 with my 2500k at 3.8GHz and a 7950 right now.

Sadly that 30 FPS is about correct, no joke. If you OC CORRECTLY I expect you to get about 40 FPS, the good thing about bottlenecks is once you OC the FPS skyrockets. To add merit to what im saying you will not get an FPS boost from lowering the...
