Want to upgrade my laptop to SSD, but it seems the SSDs ho longer include the h/w to connect up. So I thought I would just pop oen my desktop, add 2 SATA cables and clone it that way. Question is : Software?? At one time, WIndows (or DOS) included commands to DISKCOPY, not sure that would work on different size drives. Any suggestions on cloning drive using desktop, that doesn';t cost any money?

Solution
With the current cloning applications, you do NOT need to boot from it.
You can clone between any two drives.

So, connect the laptop drive and the other drive and clone between the two.

Software?
Acronis Trueimage (trial), Easus Toto, Macrium Reflect, Casper (30 day trial).
