Hi all,

I've been working on a build for a friend that can play Fallout 4, at above 40 frames per second and 1080p, with medium to high settings. It needs to be as cheap as possible. I've come to a fork in the road, whether to go for a G3258 and a 750 Ti or to crossfire an R7 260X with one of the A10-lineup... which would perform better, and which would be cheaper. The motherboard does have to be a mini-ITX one, and the LGA1150 mobos are about £10 cheaper than the FM2+ mobos.

Thanks for your help.

Regards,
Dovahkitty

Hello, dovah

Not much help can be issued for what GPU to use, the GPU intensity has not been tested with Fallout 4 nor has the game even came out yet, but i would go with the 750 ti.

that will play most semi current games at mid to high settings with decent fps if you pair it with 8gb 1600 mhz ram (4gbx2) and a 450+W 80+ bronze power supply and a case with good airflow. it can be done for about $550 if you do not need a copy of windows.

Well, the 860k seems to be inside the predicted recommended system requirements. But its a dead end in terms of upgrade path. if you go with intel this path will have many options, like i5 and i7 cpus.

The GTX 750 ti will probably allow you to play at 40fps in medium settings, but its hard to say since the game is not released yet and there are no official system requirements.

If you are not in a hurry to buy a new PC you should wait untill more info is release about that game. If you are in a hurry I would recommend you getting a R9 370 or better (but all this will depend on how much you are willing to expend):

The G3258 is not better than i3-4160, since it cannot run games that requires more than 2 cores. And its not true that the i3 will not run games that requires 4 cores:

The i3 have 4 threads so it will be seen by games as a 4 cores CPU.

Ok, right now, there are no games that REQUIRE 4 cores - g3258 > i5 750. £411 is too expensive - hard drive and case is not an issue. I have decided on the G3258 + 750 Ti, as anything else is too expensive (if we had £35 more, we would have gone for the i3 4160). We didn't need to go for a Mini ITX board anymore, so that made it a lot cheaper. My apologies to send you all on a wild goose chase.

Supposedly the R7 260X is too weak for Fallout 4. I have that card and when I run the "can you run it" app it says the video card won't work. But then it lists how many pixel shaders and vertex shaders are required and my card has more then it needs. Also, when I look at benchmarks of it compared to the GTX550Ti and the R7 actually beats it, so I don't know. I know that the Witcher 3 minimum requirements were not actually the true minimum, I was playing it on a lot weaker card then the listed minimum at the time, so I think it is going to be OK.
