Looking to build a new computer within the next month or so. I’m toying with 2 different builds (based on going i7 6-core or i7 4-core… I’m not sure which is better for my specific needs) Live in Canada, (Vancouver) but I’m close to the border so if parts of cheaper (after exchange) am willing to get stuff shipped to my US mailbox..

I’d like advice on:
a) Should I go with the i7 6-core 3.3Ghz (5820K) or 4-core 4.0Ghz (4790K)
b) Whether the combination of parts I’ve come up with are all compatible, will work well, serve my needs, etc.)

Budget Range: Would like to max out around $1400.
Purpose/Use: 75% of the use is Adobe CC 2015 (specifically Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop). Will be doing some 3D modeling and rendering as well (but not a heavy amount). Generally will have many programs running at once and lots of downloading/uploading or large resources. Barely do any gaming.

Option #1: 6-core
CPU: Intel Core i7 5820K 3.3GHz
Motherboard: Gigabyte X99-UD39 ATX
RAM: Corsair Vengence Lpx 32GB 2666MHz
PSU: Corsair CX Series CX500M 500W (Enough???)
Case: Fractal Design Desdine R4 ATX Mid Tower Window
Cooling: Should I get an after-market heat sink?? Type/Price?

Carrying Over from Existing Machine:
Video Card: Gigabyte GEForce GTX 660 (carry over from existing machine)
Hard Drives: 128MB SSD and 3.0TB Storage
DVD-RW: Unsure of Brand

Option #2: 4-core
CPU: Intel Core i7 4790K 4.0GHz
Motherboard: Asus Z87-A ATX LGA 1150
RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengence 1866
PSU: Corsair CX Series CX500M 500W (Enough???)
Case: Fractal Design Desdine R4 ATX Mid Tower Window
Cooling: Should I get an after-market heat sink?? Type/Price?

Purchase location: Plan on using NCIX.ca, but they will match prices so once I know all the stuff I should buy, I will start hunting and get them to match

Overclocking: Never done it before. Willing to if the system is easy to manage

Solution
Change the PSU to a different brand the CX is crap for running the specs you use.
I recommend EVGA G2 or another Tier 1 PSU. The XFX XTR is also top quality. A 650W will be good.

I would also pick the 5820k over the 4/8 core 4790k as more cores helps more for rendering.

Lastly the case needs to be changed for the 6/12 core build to a full atx case like this:

Bit overbudget but this is going to be the fastest option and the most reliable.
