Hi.
My iOmega external hard drive stopped working. According to many advices I disconnected it from the box and installed it as internal hard drive directly in computer.
I can see it in Disk Management, but not in My Computer.
Thanks.

Hi there Artnweb,

How is the drive recognized by Disk Management? If you could provide a screenshot of Disk Management would be helpful.

Does it have a letter assigned? In case it hasn't, I guess you can assign one.
In case the drive has damaged partitions/file system, then I guess you can use some data/partition recovery software.

Cheers,

Hi D_Know. Thanks for quick respond.
New drive was assigned as basic with number 1. Existing main drive is also basic with number 0.
I checked both with right mouse click and found that the only option to change it is to convert it to Dynamic disk.
I found also that I can assign a letter to removable disk only, not to basic.
I was checking thru Google for different solutions and found another issue.
The main hard drive has different SATA controller modes: IDE, ANCHI and RAID. If the mode is RAID, I can't install another drive as just a storage. I have to change first the mode in BIOS to IDE. But there is a warning that I have to change it BEFORE installing operating system, otherwise "it can prevent system from booting".
So for now I don't see any proper way to install it.
If you know something more then me please advise.
Thanks.

In case you have data stored on the drive, and you need to access it, I would advise you just attach it to another system(or use SATA to USB adapter) and back it up in order to be sure that it is safe.

So, the SATA mode of your whole system is RAID? This could be a possible explanation of the issue you are facing.(if you attach the drive to a different system you will be absolutely sure whether this is the case)
Most of the times, switching SATA modes would do no harm as your system will simply not boot. You can reverse that afterwards. Though, sometimes complications could occur when dealing with RAID. So, in case the SATA mode is causing all of this, my advise would be to just back all your data up and perform a clean install.

This is what I'm trying to do. I connected disk directly to 2 different computers but can't see it.
I made screenshot of disk management but can't paste it here. Is there any other way to send it to you?

The fact that gives you the option convert to dynamic, could indeed be related to the fact that your SATA mode is RAID. Though, this HDD appears the same way on different computers right? Have you tried to right click on it when attached to a different system?
In case you get similar results, I guess you can try to access the drive some data recovery tool. Check this out: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1644496/lost-data-recovery.html
Also, it will not hurt to try the Ubuntu Live CD approach. Just boot up from a flash drive or CD and see whether you can access the HDD. Check this out: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/267999-32-recover-data-mode

I took the hard drive from iomega box, and connected it in another computer with Ubuntu OS.
It's the same. I can see the drive in Ubuntu disk management but can't get access to it.
