Following up on my recent post about my big computer being out of commission, I decided it would be a good time to back up the hard drive. I have a Cables to Go USB 2.0 to SATA adapter that makes it possible to connect an internal hard drive as an external hard drive. Typically, I have used this on my big computer to connect other hard drives and move data quickly.
THis time, I took my 2TB Seagate drive out of my big computer and connected it to the laptop (Toshiba Satellite with Windows 8). The drive is connected with an A/C adapter plugged into the wall for power supply, and then a SATA data cable that plugs into an adapter with a USB plug on the other end. As per instructions I've seen online, I connected the drive while the power was running. The laptop beeps to acknowledge the connection, but the drive never shows up in My Computer. The drive is being found by the computer, though. I went to Device Manager, and I can see that the drive is found and working properly. I opened Disc Management to see if there was maybe a drive letter conflict. That drive has the word "invalid" on it. I haven't seen that before. Does anybody know what the problem could be? My big computer may be down for a while, and I usually have it networked with the laptop so I can move files back and forth, but at the moment, I have no access to my files.
Thanks all.
