Graphics card to run GTA V at 1080p 60fps on max settings

I am looking for an upgrade that will let me run GTA V at 1080p 60fps with max settings. I have an i5-4690k for my CPU which should be up to the job. My graphics card, however, needs upgrading if I'm to achieve this. Some framerate drops are okay but I don't want anything below 45 fps.

I don't care about MSAA or FXAA or any other anti-aliasing. I would like to know the cheapest card I can get with that. I am looking at benchmarks and it seems like I could go with an r9 290 for that. Is that the case? Is a gtx 780 better?

I also do want to know if my CPU can handle 1080p 60fps max settings GTA V. Ultimately I'd like something for less than $350. GTA V is the main game that I'll be playing where framerate is an issue.

I do also play moderately modded Skyrim so I want something with a decent amount of VRAM. I'm talking mods like high resolution retextures and static mesh improvements, so it should achieve the same framerate with that too.

What I have now isn't bad for Skyrim. I have an r9 [strike]290x[/strike] 270x 4gb from MSI.

Edit: Changed 290x to 270x

Yep, the R9 380 has a minimum power requirement of 500w so your EVGA 500B will do fine. I'd get either the MSI or Gigabyte G1 Gaming, although the Gigabyte one is not in stock yet. Both are 4GB.

MSI...

Your CPU will do just fine in GTA V. If you currently have R9 290x, you should be able to max out GTA V at 1080p and get 60 fps... If you really want to upgrade though, I'd get a GTX 980, 980 Ti or R9 390x. The R9 390x's 8GB of vram might help in Skyrim, although 8GB is really not necessary at 1080p. I don't see any reason to go with a GTX 780 as it performs similarly to a R9 290x.

*Edit: getting a R9 290 would be a downgrade from your 290x lol.

That makes more sense now lol. I'd look into a GTX 970 or R9 380 4GB version. Like I said previously, the 8GB on a R9 390 or 390x might help in Skyrim but there's no way it will use 8GB at 1080p.

The GTX 790?? I'm sorry sir, but you are misinformed, a i5 4690k is plenty enough to max out GTA V when paired with a GPU like the GTX 970: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bE7bpBM7QnE

Heck, it will even do good paired with a R9 380 4GB: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_9UbtnNbl0

If I got a 970 would I run in to the issue with the last .5 GB of VRAM slowing the game down or would I never use that last .5 GB?

I don't think you would on 1080p at least.

My current build has a 500W power supply. Given my Hyper 212 EVO, Crucial BallistX 8gb of RAM, my WD 7200 rpm hard drive and my AsRock z97 Extreme4 Mobo, would I be able to use an r9 380 in terms of TDP with my EVGA 500B? If so I'll go with that, but if not could I use a gtx 970?

I'm really liking the idea of and r9 380, and I would want to get a 4gb version, but which of them should I get? There are so many and I can't really tell the difference between them, so if one is better than the others I'd like to know.
