My father in law actually goes through a burner every 6-12 months roughly (its legitimate use). Reliability-wise they all seem about the same. However speed wise the Lite-Ons are always faster for him. They are always roughly $20, however they do go on sale if you watch. My last one (last week) was $12 shipped from NewEgg.
