Hi. I'm replacing my windows 8 laptop's hard drive with an SSD. I don't want to keep any of the files (all my important files are in my google drive), so I created a system recovery disk on my USB flash drive. After replacing the hard drive and booting into the flash drive from the bios, windows says I'm missing a partition on my hard drive. Is it impossible to boot into windows like this?

Edit: My laptop is an Asus Q501LA

That's what I want to do. But the system recovery drive either says that I don't have the partition on my hard drive or tells me to insert a DVD recovery drive. Will I need plug back the old hdd and make a system image?

I think I understand... your recovery partition is on the old hard drive you removed... and you need that to install Windows... so you need to figure out how to install onto a new drive... right?

Hmmm... the best thing I can think of at the moment is.. there must be an option to CREATE a Recovery DVD. You need to reinsert your old hard drive and look for that option. Once you have that.. you should be able to swap drives and install Windows onto that DVD. If not, then you may have to go the Cloning Route... but I don't recommend that...

I created the recovery disk on my USB drive, my laptop doesn't have an optical drive. I think I'll have to do a system backup, I didn't want to open the computer and unscrew everything again.
