Friend of mine has terrible WiFi signal in their garage. They have a decent router by Netgear, but I don't see upgrading a necessary step. Instead, I would like to run a powerline ethernet set-up out to the garage with a wireless access point. Is this set-up possible? I'm sure the access point would be limited to the powerline adapter's performance. I just would like to know if the set-up is possible before I start my purchases and would have to take my product back or send it back.

Yeah. Check the functionality with a laptop. If everything is working then either a router re-purposed as an AP or a dedicated AP. I like Asus routers as APs. They have an easy switch in their firmware to toggle between router and AP. Some routers aren't as easy to toggle.

Definitely a great idea. So just hard wire a laptop to the powerline adapter before finding the correct access point? And possibly find out if I need to buy a new router in doing so. Thanks for the quick response by the way.
