Which is the safest way to go? Replacing battery or move harddrive?

So, I have an Asus u500vz where the DC-adapter broke due to a worn out cable. The computer was still alive when the battery drained out but now it wont start or charge with a new DC-adapter. I had it on service and they told me that the motherboard had burned circuits and that was probably why it wont start or charge. They tried to replace the DC-connector but it didnt help.

Now I have bought the exact same computer model with same hardware configuration and have two alternatives to be able to access all the data on my old one:

1. Put in the new battery in the old one and copy all the files I need to a new drive (and do a system backup). Then copy over all the files to the new one.
2. Put in the old harddisks to the new one (its 2 SSD m.2 sATA disks in raid0)

So my question is which way is the safest to go?

Thanks for reply! Unfortunately the SSD disks are a non-standard NGFF m.2 SATA B Key disks with 12 pin + 6 pin and I cant find any adapter for these to be able to connect to regular 2,5" SATA. Even if I found an adapter for these I would have to run some kind of Raid software to be able to restore the data and what I understand it needs to be some kind of Asus software which isnt available anywhere to download.
