Hello, Because the community here on TH is more knowledgeable then myself when it comes to these kinds of things, I wanted to request some assistance on getting a part by part breakdown of a pre-built system, the cost of each of the components using PC part picker, and then the same breakdown of what each of these components would cost if I was to make a custom PC with the same parts.

The reason for me doing this is to see just how much money would be saved if I build my own PC with the same components VS the pre-built system to see just how comparable the prices are.

The pre-built system I would like a part for part breakdown of is at the link below:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/alienware-desktop-intel-core-i7-8gb-memory-2tb-hard-drive-epic-silver/3993543.p?id=1219613161272&skuId=3993543

Although not all the details of the components are listed, a knowledgeable individual should be able to get the equivalent parts used for the comparison. Please do a part by part comparison for the system using PC part picker so I can see the actually difference in price of buying this system vs building it. From what I've gathered, it seems that there is only a $200-$300 price difference between building my own and buying this pre-built system, and for the custom software/unique case, I might just buy the system in the link above and add an additional 8gbs of ram + and SSD and call it good, but i'm still unsure.

Also, I know that most of the PC community really has a knee jerk reaction to Alienware being trash, but please, try your very best to be impartial and objective for someone who is very interested in the case please. Thanks so much in advanced for any assistance you can provide friends.

I can do this but unfortunately, I need someone more knowledgeable then myself to do the part by part comparison because Dell does not list the brand/exact model of ram, mobo, PSU, CPU cooler they use, but someone more experienced and knowledgable then myself can glance at the specs on the website (or may have had an Alienware A51 system before) and tell what closest to, or equivalent components they use and compare them to a custom build.

Those are the listed components compiled from both Alienware's and BB's website. I've provided the links to both websites below in case you see something I missed that you might be able to get more info from. If you can, please try to make a custom PC through PC part picker with the all the exact or equivalent parts (including case & software) so I can get the most accurate price comparison available. I've tried to do it myself a number of times but I always have trouble with finding a few equivalent components due to my lack of knowledge, thus not getting an accurate comparison. I know a knowledgeable individual like yourself or someone else on these forums can do a much better job then I and find the rough equivalents, if not the exact parts they use in the Area 51 so I can make a more informed purchase.

All the info; with the exception of the few components that Alienware does not disclose the exact brand/models of, is provided in the post and link referenced above.

Yep - so it can't be compared. That's the way they like it.

Also, I know that most of the PC community really has a knee jerk reaction to Alienware being trash, but please, try your very best to be impartial and objective for someone who is very interested in the case please. - I try but they really don't help.

Well, surely the components can be roughly compared. The RAM, mobo, and power supply are not made by Dell and are components available like any other; its just a matter of finding someone who can do a rough comparison either by having experience through owning/seeing one in person to confirm the components they use, or by having some other inside information of the specs used.

Buy yes, Alienware definitely does not post the exact specs for a reason. I just don't think Alienware is all that more expensive or as poor a computer manufacturer as the custom PC community makes it seem. Simply, I'm trying to do the most accurate comparison possible so I can really weigh the pros/cons.
