When I try to load Autodesk Alias while having an external monitor connected to my laptop both the screens go black and I'm left with just the cursor. I then have to do a reset by holding the laptop power button and then turn it on again. This only happens when the desktop is set to extended but when I have it as mirrored desktop the program loads fine.

I've installed a new ssd in place off my hdd. I wanted to do a fresh install of windows but when I did that I was getting the black screen problem with the external display as above. So I then cloned my existing hdd and then did a windows reset from the windows recovery option hoping that would solve the problem as it worked fine when the hdd was installed, but it didn't.

Laptop is an Acer 8943g with Amd Radeon 5800 graphics card. I have updated the drivers for it as well but still no luck.

Hope someone can help

Thanks

its not because it handles it fine with the HDD.

I think it could be missing something but im not sure what. Ive checked the drivers many times now and reinstalled them but still nothing.

Anyone know how I could go about troubleshooting this?

Thanks

Yea it still works with the HDD in place.

I updated the Graphics driver through the AMD website. The other drivers were installed with windows but I havent checked each individual one to see if there is an update from the manufacturer. Is there a program which will check if there are new versions for my hardware at once? Or do I need to go through each individual component and check? There were 2 conflicting devices in the device manager after the fresh install, but I installed the drivers for them from the acer website for my laptop and then they stopped conflicting.

Thanks

Okay thanks, Should I uninstall all drivers from the device manager and install the ones from that first link or can I just download and install these over the ones that are installed already?

Sorry if its a stupid question

Okay, Ive just tried the laptop connected to a TV via Hdmi and the program didnt seem to freeze and the laptop was working fine. So I think its just when I connect it to my monitor that it makes the laptop freeze. Its an LG 3Dd2342p monitor. I have downloaded the 3D software and driver from the website and installed it but I cant test it out again because im away for work so dont have the monitor with me, But when I can I shall update on that. But im not sure how the 3D software will affect the running of an application that has nothing to do with the 3D feature of the monitor.

Also I downloaded and installed the drivers from the link you posted and everything installed fine except some of intel ones, Mainly being the Turbo boost Intel driver. When I try to install it, it says that my laptop is below the minimum requirements for the installation. And the WLAN drivers also dont install, it makes the laptop crash and I get an error. But the wireless connection seems to be working fine and the bluetooth works fine aswell :S
