Hey guys just a quick question here.

Basically I have taken out the hard drive of an older PC which had Windows XP installed onto it.
Can I hook this old drive to my computer (custom built it last year) and boot to it so I can get some files from it?

Thanks
I look forward to seeing a reply

but wait, I don't quite understand what you mean.. do you mean like don't use it all the time like a daily thing?

Oh I see! so I hook up hard drive, and boot to the hard drive which has windows 8.1 on (this one im using now)
and I should see the third hard drive show up in my "This PC" folder?

Yep.

Make sure your 8.1 drive is first in boot priority and on sata port 0 or 1 - so the other one won't try to boot.

Make sure the XP one is not on asta port 0 or 1 and its not in the boot priority at all. If it tries to boot you'll have all sort of problems because the drivers will be wrong eg ethernet, audio, usb etc etc.

Right okay well I'll put it in sata 4 just to be sure
and there is a way of making it have no priority when booting in BIOS? i thought you just put it at the bottom of the list > order > HDD > SSD > OPTICAL drive > XP hard drive?>
