I bought a Samsung Evo 64gb Micro Sd card which needed to be formatted before I could use it. I tried the SDCARD.ORG formatter and the iSOFT data recovery tools but according to the card I now only have 32GBs. (Initially it did read that there were 64GBs). How can I recover the missing 32GBs?

Three suggestions. First, what filesystem did you format it with? This may be an upper limit for the filesystem.

Two, use the tool h2testw to see if your card actually has 64 GB. There have been fake flash products on the market.

Three, what device are you putting it in? SDHC tops out at 32 GB. If you have an SDHC device, it can't handle more that 32 GB.

Following instructions on various forums I formatted it to FAT 32 (it was originally exFAT32; whatever all that means).

Initially when I plugged the card through a card reader and usb connection to my Apple Laptop I was able to see that it contained 64Gbs, but because of its format I wasn't able to add any files to it. (I bought the card so that I could add various pdf books and reports to an ASUS tablet for ease of access and reference).

I formatted the device and plugged it back into the Apple and it now reads 32GB max. I have run a couple of data recovery software packages (iSoft and M3). None of them have found the missing 32Gbs.

The disk definitely did have 64 Gbs on it and it is a Samsung product purchased through Amazon from a supplier with good scores.

From what I understand sdxc cards need to be formatted in sdxc items (such as a SLR camera that is capable in handling the sdxc "protocol") otherwise you run the risk of damaging your micro sd card, like you just did.....

I've bought SD cards directly from Best Buy and Walmart and have gotten fake ones. Every time i call Samsung up, they always ask me to look to see if the Micro SDcard itself says Made in Korea. If it says it was made anywhere other than Korea, the card is a fake.
