Can a Core 2 Quad run games that require a first gen i5?

I'm curious if my Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 can run games where the system requirements are for i5-2500 (first generation I think). I see some videos on youtube where people claim to run things like Witcher 3 and Batman Arkham Knight. I know obviously the i5 is newer and more powerful but I am more curious because I'm not necessarily into the future of gaming yet, mostly playing things from the last 4 years or so.

Solution
depends on the games actually. shouldn't have any issue "running" the new games. you can easily find out for yourself by trying to run one in your pc.

That's basically what I mean. My main concerns are will they start and if they do would it be possible for it not to be a slideshow.

your saying cpu.. but what you just described mainly depends on the gfx card/igpu.

for instance, if a game is hardcoded to run on an i5/i7/pentium and higher, you'll notice unreliable behavior upon running it. you might also see error message. "good ones" will tell you about the min. req. or recommended req.

So you're saying is whether it will start what the performance will be are two different things?

No reason they shouldn't start unless they have strict requirements. Civ V, for example, has been known to start and immediately fail if you don't meet the minimum. Throw in another stick of RAM and nothing else, putting it at or just over the min and it starts fine. Runs like crap but it starts.

yup. mostly. as long as your pc and software meet the min. req.

a compatible game can still display unreliable behavior due to pre-existing bugs or cause slideshow.

what i'm trying to say is that you have to deal with games case by case. meeting requirements (or not) is only a part of the process.

anecdote: i've run games that didn't meet monitor/gfx min. req. the images stretched out of the display range, didn't meet min. gfx req. ran like crap, but those ran. some barely missed, got error message at startup and stopped.
