is 70c too hot for gaming ?

hi i have

i5 4690k @ 4.4ghz
asrock extreme 6
xfx pro 850 watt psu
asus strix gtx 980
16gb ram 1333mhz

i have just recently tried to overclock my i5 4690k from 3.5 ghz to 4.4ghz. i have tried gaming on gta v and have been monitoring the temps it says my chip temp is 70c is that okay for gaming ?

70 C is kind of on the high side. What are you cooling your CPU with? Stock fan?

It's a bit hot indeed, I would try to down the voltage a bit to see if it helps

You can go higher but remember, it's called a STOCK fan for a reason. Get a solid air or water cooling solution and those issues should disappear.

that is with cooler master evo 212 and overclocked at 4.4ghz while playing gta v

I'm assuming you're overclocking on an aftermarket air cooler. 70 is still good, nothing to worry about. Above 75 is when I would keep my eye on, and 80 or above would not be okay.

If its with a 212, you may want to consider lowering the voltage. The temps are not dangerous, but I would be a little concerned about them.

If that's on an Evo, you are still OK but are probably shortening the life of your chip marginally.

i will overclock to 4.0ghz which i just done 60c i think they are safer temps dont you ?

Well, I doubt the i5 would not be sufficient to run gta V even without overclocking, and every person comfort level with the temperatures do differ. So yes, you won't lose out much at 4.0Ghz and 60c is cool.

60 C will be fine on the i5. It should still perform very well.
