Hello. I want to upgrade my low end PC. And the question is, do I buy a new gaming PC or a second hand one.
Things to note:
I don't have a big budget (400-450 pound)

I honestly get 6-15 FPS on arma 2 low graphics on everything

I want a noticeable difference

I'm pretty sure you can get a PC that was worth 1000-1500 pound at 400-500 pound second hand ( bare this in mind )

Thank you :)

400-450 will get you something better then what you have for sure, but it will still be fairly low end, last generations 700-800 pound pc will be faster.

I would look through your local used market and you can always come back on here and ask us if it is a good buy or a ripoff.

ADDED:
You are not going to find a used 1000-1500 pc for 400-450 unless either it is stolen or it was 1000 6+ years ago (in which case it will be less capable then a new 450 pound pc). A good 2xxx or 3xxx series Core i5 pc would fit the bill of what you are wanting quite nicely.

You can almost always get lower prices going second hand. You can also get cheated. If you buy from Ebay or Amazon, you can lower the risk of buying second hand. A trusted friend should be safe as well (unless you are a poor judge of character).
Buying second hand, you forgo any warrantee (manufacturers may honor one, but you should assume that the seller has invalidated all of them unless they specifically state otherwise). On the other hand, if it's a working used machine, the original owner has probably worked out most potential problems.

I've bought and sold quite a few used machines. I've gotten great deals, but I've also had to deal with dirty fans, improperly mounted CPU coolers, loose and/bent screws, etc. Since I don't mind doing cleaning and basic repairs myself, I've saved a lot of money.

Thank you, for the replies. And yes I suppose I over exaggerated a lot on the prices from new to old. And I'll be sure to check out that reddit page. Thanks

EDIT:
yea, I really respect that advice. Some good advice on the checking to see if it's working alright. Often, when you shop from eBay, you have to go to their house and pick it up, maybe I could go and ask if I can have a look inside. Thanks for the advice :)

I've purchased $1000+ rigs on Ebay before for $500. Some people don't know what they are selling. If you are patient and willing to research. I paid less than $600 for my current system which has an i7 4770k, GTX 770, 250GB SSD, 1TB drive, 8GB ram, and an AIO water cooler on the CPU. The seller sold several similar systems.
They are hard to find and don't last long, but they do pop up from time to time.

One more note for you in your search.

If the PC does not have a windows license key sticker on it for the version of windows it has, it is likely not a legitimate copy of windows (If it is Windows 7 Ultimate, then it is highly likely it is a pirated copy of windows).

Yes boosted. In matter of fact, on my current PC I have a un licensed windows version, as often I get viruses on my PC (used to) and I used to restore the whole thing, but my brother has a thing on a USB where he can basically give me windows 7. But yeah, thank you for the info I did not know! Thank you.

not really, if it is a custom built PC they may not put the sticker on the case like OEM's do so all you need to do is ask if there is a key or not. if it is an OEM then there may be a sticker on the case but just not the version of windows they install on it.

IMO buying a second hand PC would be difficult because most ads don't mention every part in it so it may sound like a great PC but it may have some low quality part's like a weak PSU
