Heya guys

A friend of me has been trying to build a rig and it didnt work in the first place, so i came along to help him.

We tried lots of stuff and nothing happened. The pc would start, fans would spin except gpu fans. The power led was blue, but underneath it was a led that was flashing red each 1 second or so. It kept on going until we turned the pc off.

We couldnt get into bios in any way, every cable (vga, dvi, hdmi) would give us no signal.

We totally disassambled the pc. Then i discovered that there was still a cover on the cpu socket. We had to remove that with some soft tools to not damage the socket itself. Asrock didnt provide us with the tool to open it.

Then we discovered a small pin on the cpu was bend because the cpu was already forced on the plastic socket cover for a day. We bent back that pin and the cpu fit into the socket.

Now we removed the gpu and tried to use the onboard gpu. We also applied only one stick of ram and swapped that between the 4 different slots. Also tried other ram sticks. Still, red led flashing and other led bright blue like it,s turned on. Processor and case fans spinning, still no signal.

Hdd has always been installed. Mobo speaker as well, doesnt give any peep or something similar.

We kinda don't know what to do from here. Returning the components doesnt seem to be an option since the cpu socket cover was forgotten and that is our fault for sure. Still, there shouldnt be a reason not to work since after bending the pin back, the cpu went flawlessly into the socket.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Specs of the build:
x MSI R9 380 2GD5T OC gpu
x AMD A8-7600, 3,1 GHz (3,8 GHz Turbo Boost) cpu
x Sharkoon VS4 Window case
x LG GH-24NS CEBL1E dvd mount
x ASRock FM2A88X Pro3+ mobo
x Seagate Desktop HDD, 500 GB
x ADATA 8 GB DDR3-1600, 4 ram sticks
1 x Cooler Master B500 500 watt PSU

Can a whole cpu be broken if only one pin was bent?

Also, we didnt test things with gpu installed, may it be that mobo and cpu dont have onboard gpu thus being unable to enter the bios without the gpu?

No other pins were bent, otherwise it wouldnt fit into the socket.

One thing besides not having an onboard gpu could be possible:

Since the cpu was forced to be on that plastic cover, there might be a small chance that all pins are bent to a certain degree. They would all have bent exactly the same though. I'm however not certain of this since it still went into the socket after that one pin being bent back

Sorry, I missed the part with the RAM. Did you try to unplug the DVD and/or the hard drive? You also said that the fans did not spin up on the graphics card. No power to the graphics card could mean that #1 MB is bad. #2 PSU is bad.

Two suggestions:

1. Read the mobo manual and / or search the maker's website for info on what that blinking red light means. It is a clue!

2. Maybe you've installed a few things wrong (for example, the stand-offs in the case) and caused the problem. Could be, for example, a short of the mobo to the case. Try "breadboarding" the system. That is, you remove ALL components from the case and place the mobo on an insulating surface (at one time, a dry wooden board was suggested, hence the name). Install the CPU with its cooler and thermal paste, one stick of RAM, NO HDD or SSD. Connect the PSU. Connect a video cable from the mobo video out connector to your monitor. Turn on and watch the indicator lights. See if you get BIOS POST messages, followed by an error about no bootable device. If you get that, the basics are working. Now you turn off and start adding components, one at a time, checking whether it still works. If it suddenly does not, you know the culprit. If it ALL works out of the case, you need to re-think carefully how you installed into the case.
