Hi,

Recently i upgraded my PC with new GPU and PSU.....problem is after installing new things my UPS started beeping long (continously) when playing GTA 5 or Far Cry4....im not getting whats the exact problem is.....Previously i was using GPU XFX AMD HD 5770 1GB and PSU is Coolermaster RP-500-PCAR 500W and my UPS was working fine at that time....can u please suggest me if my PC needs more VA than current.

UPS : - APC RS550VA

Current Specs : -
GPU : - XFX AMD R9 290X 4GB
PSU : - Seasonic SS-750AM2 750W
CPU : - AMD FX 6300+ 4Ghz
RAM : - 8GB Transcend 1600Mhz
MOTHERBOARD : - ASROCK N68CS
LG Optical Drive
Seagate 500GB 5200RPM

Please suggest....

R9-290X = 350W averaged peak during gaming
FX6300 @ 4GHz = ~100W
Other components = ~50W
Total: ~500W output
PSU efficiency: let's say 90%
Input power: ~550W

If your UPS is rated for less than 1000VA, it is likely complaining about an overload - your system is drawing more power while gaming than the UPS can deliver if it needs to switch to battery.

You will have to reconsider your budget.

UPS capable of providing at least 600W start around $140 and even that might be too close for comfort. If you aim for 700W models for some safety margin and usually better run-time, the price rises to $200+ for the major brands.

The TrippLite SMART1200LCD costs around $175 but only gives you about four minutes of run time at ~700W. If you want more run time, you need to shell out around $270 for something like a SMART1050 705 which can run for about eight minutes.

Since most modern PSUs have APFC, the watt rating would be more important but most units capable of putting out 700W (a safe margin over the 550-600W your PC will be pulling) will be rated at 1200-1500VA.

If you do not mind having only about two minutes of battery time at 500W, there is a number of 700-900W APC, TrippLite, CyberPower and other major brand UPS around $150. If you want ~10 minutes though, you will have to cross over in the $200+ range.

One query .....APC 1000VA will comes with 6 outputs .....4 battery and 2 surge protection.....my question is if i put only PC connection to surge protection does it take more than 600watts without interrupting load.....i mean that direct wall connection with surge protect....please confirm

Surge-only outlets have no battery backup and you can put up to whatever the UPS' breaker rating is on them. If you are going to plug your PC into surge-only outlets, you may as well save $100-150 and buy a decent power line surge protector.

The Volt*Amp and Watt ratings are only for the battery backup function.
