Computer crashes under heavy gaming load

Hi,

So until recently my computer had been running just fine. I recently built this computer towards the end of February this year. I can run games like Mass Effect 2, Insurgency and CS:GO all day however when I try to run Metro 2033 Redux, Battlefield 4, or sometimes ArmA 2 I'm able to play for a few minutes then the computer black screens and most of my usb devices shut off and I have to reset the computer. To me this seems like not enough power output from my PSU but I wanted to make sure it wasn't a failure from my GPU.

Specs:
CPU: i7-4790k @ 4.59 GHz
MOBO: ASUS Maximus VII Hero
RAM: 2x 8 GB Gskill 1866
GPU: EVGA GTX 970 SC ACX 2.0
PSU: EVGA 850 G2
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Seidon 240M

The USB devices I run are Saitek x55 Rhino, Razer Nostromo, Logitech G930 Headset, a logitech webcam and then my mouse and keyboard.

As I'm writing this it seems more and more apparent that I'm probably just using more power than my PSU can output. However, running some of the tests on 3dmark do crash my computer. I believe FireStrike extreme caused it to crash (unfortunately I stepped away from the computer when this happened).

Thanks,
Jake

Nice!
You can also choose to log the temperatures and load on gpu z so that it will monitor your stuff while you play games and you can see the results after you finish.

Try monitoring the temps of the cpu and gpu with cpuz and gpuz

Okay, so I downloaded GPU-Z and while sitting idle at the desktop it shows that my GPU fan is not spinning. So I believe that's my problem, although I guess the gpu fan might not spin when its not being used. I'm getting temps of about 58 C just sitting at the desktop. So is there a fairly easy fix to the fan not working or do I just need to replace my graphics card?

-Update: The fan is working, I just installed the EVGA tool for fan control and have gotten my GPU temps down. I need to monitor my CPU temps while in game but my CPU idles between 35 and 40 C.

Well I think I fixed it. So my problem was that the GPU fan wouldn't run at more than like 6% of it's total operating speed without the EVGA software, so I amped up the fan speed and got my GPU temps down about 20C from where it was normally idling.
