I am about to buy one of them and I want to know whats of those both better for gaming.
I am not going to do overclocking.

Solution
They said on paper the g1 gaming is better but, the MSI they thinks its more reliable (personally I ordered today a g1 gaming)

(We are talking within a 1-2% difference).
The g1 its better to OC.

I would (and did) take the MSI GTX 970 Gaming G4. On low load, the fans don't spin and that means dead silent.

Sorry for beeing late in reply. You asked about coil whine. I have read a lot about MSI's 970 G4 having a high chance of an issue with it. Mine is affected too, but I can hear it only using onboard sound through speakers and only if I lowe a little ingame sound. Problem solved by using a dedicated sound card. Also I think quality of psu and mainboard can affect the coil whine too.

I did not research for other brands coil whine issue, so I don't know if MSI have a bigger problem then others. I still recommend the MSI, a the performance difference between cards is low as 1-2 fps in almost all benchmarks.

My board is not bad or old, its the Gigabyte H87-D3H. The onboard sound sounds crystal clear and good. It even sounds better than my sound blaster x-fi. In low fps (under 100 fps) there is no coil whine.

I didn't want to discuss the quality of mine board, just pointing out a solution if someone else is reading this message and have coil whine.
