I'm building a new PC for 4k surround gaming (I've already bought the monitors so this isn't a dream/fictional build), and I have a question regarding the processor. I'd like to go with the new Skylake due to better gaming performance (most cpu choked games only use a single core where the ). However, I don't want $4k in titans to possibly be held back on every other game by skylake.

I've done my research and it sounds like a ZXXX mobo with a PLX chip will double the number of PCIe lanes of the processor (so 2x 20 for skylake) which would put it on par with an X99. Based on the articles that I've found that a PLX chip has a negligible impact on performance. However, I've never built anything this complex (my current PC only has 2x SLI), so I'm asking to see if anyone knows otherwise.

Solution
Nothing you do will reduce the inherent bottlenecks coming from single-processor constraint. I don't believe there is much insight into 4K surround gaming ATM. The processor laod should be significant, regardless of all other issues and may not be feasible, IMHO.

I'd like to be corrected though, so maybe someone else will chime in. :)
