Hello

Just installed new 1x4Gb DDR3 Kingston ram onto my computer, adding onto the 1x4GB DDR3 Corsair ram I already had on it.

Here are some more specifications

Kingston Ram
PC3-12800 (800 Mhz) Max Bandwidth
9905584-020_A00LF Part number
6C309F88 Serial number

Corsair Ram
PC3-10700H (667 Mhz) Max Bandwidth
CMX4GX3M1A1600C9 Part number
No serial number

Motherboard:
Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd (Manufacturer)
H55M-S2H (Model)
Socket 1156 LGA
Intel Core i7 860

Thats all the info I could find..

Windows recognizes the 8Gb ram but still says 3.96gb usable. I have no idea what has gone wrong here. I have tried resetting the CMOS, that doesn't work. Please help

Thanks

Solution
Hi SirJosh,
Based on the part number you listed for the Kingston memory, it is not compatible with the H55M-S2H motherboard. That memory is a Single Rank 4GB module and the H55 chipset cannot communicate properly with it. The system appears to be only properly communicating with the originally installed module which is why it is only showing 3.96GB as available. So if you try the Kingston module by itself, typically what will happen is the system may post but the lock up at booting windows or go into a boot loop.

We no longer manufacture memory that is compatible with the H55 chipset. A discontinued part number that is compatible is KVR1333D3N9H/4G which you may be able to find from some online resellers.

Let me know if you have any...

As it was mentioned if you're using Windows 32bit then that is the limit it can read for memory. However if you're using Windows 64bit then we will need to look at other things that could be causing a problem.

In CMOS, it tells me my BIOS version is F5 which is not the latest update. The latest update is F7 which I have tried to download from the manufacturer's website but when I begin to install it, it says that the program cannot start due to incompatibility issues with windows 64-bit. I tried the other file but it's only compatible with only 32bit too.

This unfortunately did not help. I swapped the sticks around and doubled checked that the they were seated tightly and properly into the slots but when I got back on, windows was still saying only 3.96Gb usable.

Thats a damn shame. I guess I should be looking for a new motherboard instead of new ram.
