Hello, I'm new to Tom's Hardware & i would like to know if it would pay off for me to buy the following PC configuration for a flawless 60 FPS game play experience?
The components are the following:
ASUS M5A97 R2.0
AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz
Sapphire Radeon R9 290X OC Tri-X 8GB DDR5 512-bit

Also what PSU would be most recommended for this set? I have an:
Antec VP500PC 500W
Currently i have 8GB of RAM from Corsair (Vengeance series). If any expert could guide me in the right way i would be delighted :). Thank you in advance for your time. :D

@Sapphire Thunder..Well budget wouldn't be a problem, because i would gather the money. I only want to know if there is any sense in gathering $ for these parts. :)

For R9 290X, 600W would be safest.

Something like Seasonic or EVGA SuperNova is best.
And since you don't have any specific budget...

You should take H97 motherboard and Intel i5 4690 (since you don't seem like a person who would overclock)
[strike]And MSI Gaming 4G or Gigabyte Gaming G1 GTX 980. (both just a bit more expensive than R9 290X)[/strike]
NVM, Was looking at the Vapor X, Yours was Tri-X

MSI Gaming 4G GTX 970 or Gigabyte Gaming G1 GTX 970

@Sapphire Thunder...Understood :). Would there be any AMD equivalent to these? I never was a big Nvidia-Intel fan, but i noticed that sadly games are optimized mostly for those two....rather than AMD-ATI :| & yes i never overclocked my PC & probably never will because I'm not a hardcore gamer, just want a well "oiled" performance & i understood that when building a gaming PC the focus should be on the GPU and that the other parts can be a bit less performant. Btw the ones you recommended me have 4GB, VRAM isn't so important in a GPU?

Well, for cpu you could take FX-8320 or FX-8350. But both pretty much will require a cooler.
Stock cooling won't work.
But for gpu? Nah, AMD loses almost every possible way there.

Bigger power consumption and just barely similar performances at similar price ranges.

Except on the low end. R9 270 is, for now, much better gpu at 100-150$ than GTX750Ti. However, NVidia will soon release GTX 950 and 950Ti. So AMD will lose again.

The only good points of AMD cards are higher memory bandwidths and, mostly, memory amounts.
Sadly none of them helps except on higher resolution, at which you will then need either lower graphics quality or an Crossfire system to stay at above 60fps because of lack of other performance and comparatively worse drivers.

Because of the better efficiency too. Also driver support is slightly better for nvidia.
Don't get me wrong r9 290x is a capable card but will draw way more power and release more heat. 980 is a better performer but it also cost a bit more. What's the budget and what games u gonna play ? I assume it's 1080p resolution

High-end AND both top and mid-end. In Low-end, as I said before, the AMD is better choice. But it will change soon.
With GTX950/950Ti, NVidia will be leading in all gpu levels pretty much.
