MOBO cpu compatibilty issues

not very experienced with old gigabyte boards but my friend has a 970a-d3p board and he wants to upgrade to an i7 4790 cpu will he have to get a new board if thats the case i have a board he can get but any reccomendations

Yes, he will need to get a new Motherboard, you cannot put an Intel CPU in an AMD MotherBoard. And as far as getting a board for the i7, it really depends on what he is planning on doing.. Gaming, multiprocessing, video editing; does he want a good cheap board, does he want a moderately good board, or does he want to go "balls out" as they say? Lol.
