Athlon x4 860k vs fx 6300

Im looking to upgrade my pc here pretty soon, and i currently have an am3+ motherboard. ive been going back and forth between buying an fx 6300 or getting a new fm2+ motherboard and an athlon 860k. My only question though is are there going to be any new cpu's on fm2+, or will they go straight to the next socket eg. fm3?

Solution
Ordinarily I'd be recommending the 860K because it is the superior product given the price difference and one of only two AMD CPUs I'm comfortable recommending under most circumstances. However, given that you already ave an AM3+ mobo, just go the cheap route and get the FX.

There's no future proof socket in either of the companies if you think about it
I don't think DDR4 is going to be something gaming companies will aim for in at least 6 more years until the next gen of consoles

but the thing is, i need better single core performance, which the 860k has. It would be really nice if there was a 6-core athlon or a better single core performance 6300 XD

amd didn't say. but it's possible down the line.

edit: if you want raw single core perf and no o.c., one of the higher end core i3 will suit your needs @3.6-3.7~ Ghz.

Yes that would have the best single core performance, but only having 2 physical cores is a little off-putting.

Update: Plus an i3 and h81 mobo would still be more expensive than a 860k plus a88x mobo.

What do you think an 860k is, its only 2 physical cores with 2 logical cores.
I3 + h81 is not much more expensive when you factor in that you need an upgraded cooler and higher frequency ram to get near i3 performance.

Then with the i3 you actually have an upgrade path, where as you are fully maxed out with the 860k and just hopping amd makes anything that is a half decent upgrade.

good point, but i dont really need an upgrade path, as i dont use that much cpu power, i just need something better than my athlon II x2 270 XD I think if I got an fx 6300, I could just dedicate more cores to the programs I will run, and that would only cost me $100
