There was a rumour earlier in the year that I read somewhere online that said direct x 12 may have the capabilities to allow you to run two differing gpu in the same machine, even amd and nvidia at same time.

Is this just wish listing or is this something that we can actually expect? Because a fury x or titan ti would slot in lovely with my 290

it was a rumour, it would open up all sorts of upgrade paths, but I can't see how you can balance the load. I've heard nothing about this since the first time it was mentioned, if they have managed it however then it should be at OS and not game level of abstraction and just work independent of the game. I'm hoping, but not confident that it'll come off.
The only scenario I've seen of it in practice and running, was the AMD APU handling the rendering of on-screen units, with the discrete mobile GPU handling the rest of the scene. The example was a RTS game.

My opinion is that it'd be great marketing for mobile, but in the desktop space? I can't see either party opening up to the possibility, as it only hurts their bottom line. Thinking back to the AMD GPU primary with Nvidia Physx secondary GPU. That wasn't ever officially supported and only lived on with 'hacks'.
