AMD FX9590 running extremely hot and shutting down

Hello, I've recently run into a problem with my computer.
Parts:
AMD FX9590 CPU
Gigabyte 990FX A-UD3 Motherboard
EVGA GTX 760 Graphics card
Corsair CX600m PSU

When I went to start my computer this morning it blue screened partway into loading windows. I started it back up shortly after and it shut off without warning just after POST. After some fiddling around I managed to get into BIOS and saw that CPU temp was at 79C. I've been running this system fine for months, perhaps even a year by now. As far as I can tell the pump for my watercooler is dead, but after installing an air cooler and even going as far as to lower the CPU voltage and clock speeds and having a large room fan blowing on the fins, it still heats up very quickly and idles in the mid 70's. I know this CPU is a very hot running one, but I don't think it should be running THIS hot... Any help or insight would be appreciated.

I only had one available and it's a dinky little thing, but I have like a 15inch room fan blowing down on the fins at max speed, so even given it's a small thing I would assume it would manage to keep it at least cool enough to boot into windows with that.

An NH-D14 won't even keep a 9590 cool. They are super high leakage chips that create an INCREDIBLE amount of heat. A custom loop is what you really need with a 9590.

God, you should know better than to think this would keep that chip cool. That like putting a 140 mm case fan into your car to cool the radiator.

Your cooling solution is the definition of stupidity. You need a nepton 140xl minimum. If you experience hot summers or live in a tropical country with no aircondishioning a nepton 240L should do the trick. Good luck on not burning your cpu before you get your solution.

You gotta love the angry responses you get to AMD cooling questions sometimes.

Anyways, as someone who used to own a 9590, I can attest that the thing has the heat output of an Alaskan space heater. You'll need a moderately high-end solution to keeps temps at acceptable levels. If you want to stick with Air cooling, you'll want something top of the line that can fit into an AM3+ socket, but I would highly recommend liquid cooling. The Corsair H100i did the trick for me, though I'm sure there are other solutions you could look into. Thankfully, installing water coolers on AMD MoBo's is a fairly simple process.

Check if you have Cool'n'Quiet enabled and functional.

Try manually underclocking and undervolting until you find the solution to your problem.

For sure, check the watercooler to see if there are any problems.
