Running GPU's with extra voltage 24/7?

So I know that adding extra voltage to anything consequently increases temperatures, but also increases stability. I'm currently overclocking my GPU and have come to the point where I need to add voltage to increase stability. I'm running a GIGABYTE GTX 980 G1 Gaming edition card and am debating whether or not I should add that extra .87mV afterburner will allow. Is it safe to run the card with so much extra pumping through it on a 24/7 basis? I'm curious. Any posts I found regarding this topic are years old now so I was wondering if things had changed.

Depends on the card, I watched an interview with the main marketing engineer @ PC perspective and he said that it's safe to add .87mV to the 980 ti reference card however it might not be the case for your model because the card most likely has higher voltage out of the box than the 980 ti reference....
