Upgraded Graphics from GTX 660 to 960, and now the system won't boot

So I swapped out my GTX 660 for GTX 960 (both eVGA) because the GTX 660 quit producing a video signal. After I popped in the new GTX 960 the system ran fine for a night and I was able to play GTA5 for several hours with a friend. Windows 8 wanted to update at the end of the night so I let it and went to bed. By the next morning the system was frozen and I was forced to reboot mid-update.

After much hassle and internet research I ended up reinstalling windows only to NOT have my nice new video card produce an output to my monitors. The systems runs 100% fine on the motherboards video out, but as soon as I hook a monitor to the GTX 960 and activate the PCIe Video card in the BIOS, I get on-screen BIOS but after that is nothing. A single beep from the computer and then the monitor powers down like I just shut off the computer.

Drivers are 100% up to date in windows and the system see the card in the system (when I'm on the internal GPU).

No error messages to report.

I did all the steps HERE and nothing is amiss. Everything is plugged in fine, and the only thing to change hardware wise is the graphics card (I checked everything else anyway).

This is a system that I have built that has run fine for 2-3 years with little to no problems until now.
Intel Core i7 3770K @ 3.5 GHZ
Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe with the most current Bios
32 GB DDR3 @668 MHz
eVGA GTX 960 Superclocked in a Dual Monitor Config (Single monitor for now until this system works again)
111GB Kingston SSD + 5 other HHD's
1000W EVGA G2 Power Supply
Windows 8.1 Pro
Custom water cooling rig on the CPU that I built.
Temps are great in my cooler master full tower.

Just for grins I booted up memtest and the memory appears fine.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

You very might be on to something here. I'm thinking an 1000W EVGA G2 might be the way to go...

I'll repost here to give you credit if it works.

Unfortunately, this solution did NOT work. Over the course of an hour I changed out the PSU and all the associated power cables and the symptoms did not change at all.

Internal Video works fine, External GTX 960 goes blank after my BIOS screen.

I would still appreciate any help.

So I called EVGAs tech support line. They suggested that I switch the PCIe port on the motherboard that the video card was in and see if that fixed it because it could possibly be a bad PCIe controller on my processor.

I swapped it to my only other available socket (the board technically has 3 but the PSU blocks the 3rd port from using a double wide card) and now I still do not get any video, but the monitor stays active and doesn't go to sleep, like its waiting for a video signal.

I'm not sure what this means. Are there any adjustments I would need to make in the UEFI Bios to make the video go to another socket?

Unfortunately I do not have a spare Motherboard or CPU that would be cross-compatible.

However, I've managed to get my symptoms to change again. I was getting bored with climbing under the desk so many times to switch my monitor from the MB's GPU to my 960 GTX (2nd socket still). So I hooked one of my 2 monitors to the MB (HDMI) and the other to the 960 (DVI) so when ever I switched it in BIOS, I could just use the appropriate monitor and stop all the swapping...

At any rate, I swapped the BIOS over to iGPU (with BOTH monitors hooked up) and logged into windows. Once I did, both monitors became active (meaning one is working through the GPU and one via the MB video out).

That I really can't explain...

Can anyone read those symptoms and make something out of them?

So I ran both my old 660 GTX and my new 960GTX to buddies house to try in his computer. The old 660 has ceased working but the newer 960 works fine.

I'm thinking it almost has to be the processors PCIe controller.
