Hello all!
Today I installed a ATI Radeon HD5970 in my computer, and after the first restart from CCC, I'm already experiencing problems.

First I was dealing with the black border issue, but after moving overscan to 0% in CCC, the screen fits, but everything seems HUGE compared to how it was on my nvidia before, I used to have everything very tiny. I'm dealing with Blur and Graininess. Can anybody help me out"? I'v been looking for an answer for hours now.!

-Mitchell

Thank you

(You can see in the image below that I have icons on the desktop set to small, yet its only fitting 8 icons. per row.)

If you're experiencing the black border issue, it sounds like you're connected to a TV rather than an actual computer monitor.

I would check the zoom level in your browser. At levels other than 100% it may look odd.

Also, AMD graphics drivers newer than 14.4, depending on the TV you are connected to, will treat all HDMI connected sources as HDMI, whether you're actually adapting the DVI output or not. This causes endless display quality issues. The only fix for this problem, if your TV is causing the particular snafu with the AMD card, is to create and install a custom EDID profile for your screen in Windows. What this does is essentially force the graphics drivers to treat the screen as a DVI device rather than HDMI. An easy test...

An easy test would be to install the 14.4 or older drivers and see if your screen becomes crisp and clear again. If it does, this is the issue.

Whether either of these issues has any bearing on your actual problem you're experiencing, I can't say. To be honest, I'm not really seeing too much wrong with your screen shot. Comparison shots of before and after may have been more descriptive?

Have you checked that the 5970 is running at the native resolution of your screen? Perhaps it reverted back to a "safe" resolution, just in case? The screen may just be sampling things up to fit which could be causing blurring or artifacting of things that otherwise used to be crisp.

Thank you for the responses!

I was able to get a friend of mine to send me a picture of his desktop, and how everything looked before on mine, like I said with everything smaller. http://i.imgur.com/saTiAsl.jpg

This is how my desktop looks with eveything set to small, and my resolution on max. Overscan set to 0%. http://i.imgur.com/t5XQO9B.jpg

This is the monitor I am using: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001912
Graphics Card: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150460

I have downloaded the latest ATI drivers.

thanks again!

That monitor appears to connect via HDMI on first glance. Try the 14.4 drivers and see if things clear up for you, as it was after that release some HDMI connections soured.

Another option, if you're on Windows 8.1, as you haven't mentioned yet, is to go to the Appearance and Personalization options for your Windows Desktop and make sure the slider is set to Smaller.

Been looking around.... Everything that I can set to 1080p, has been set. however I just went to checkmyscreenresolution and its showing that I'm still 720p... does that have anything to do with it??
