Difficulty getting my computer working after Power outage.

Hey Toms, we just had a storm in our area and after the storm my computer wouldn't turn on. I did have the computer on during the storm. When I turned the power on, the fans and lights came on, but I didn't have any video. In addition, the power sounded like it was trying to start up but kept restarting.

So i ordered a new PSU and replaced it. I assumed this would fix everything, but while the fans work, the lights on the GPU and MoBo are on, and it isn't restarting like before, but still no video.

Any ideas?

(I did check the list mentioned on the forum and I've had no luck).

Solution
Input your build in here to check if the psu you bought is providing enough power.http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp

If it is, and you still have this issue, I would be surprised if the problem wasn't your motherboard got damaged

If you gpu is in the pci-e slot and not onboard graphics, remove the gpu and see if it boots

When it does and you can see the screen after doing this, the gpu has been fried and needs to be replaced. It also means only your onboard graphics will work

I took out the ram and replaced it, no change. I was able to connect my monitor to my friends PC and it does indeed work.

(To explain the sounds a bit more, the computer doesn't restart totally. The fans rev up and then back down, but don't stop completely before reving back up again). I hope that is clear.

Ug, i suppose that is the problem then, because the PSU is a 650 and I only need around 400. Is there anyway to identify that is the problem without ordering a new one? Thanks for all your help by the way!

No problem. But here is where things can be complex and be a gamble. The CPU could've been damaged or the entire motherboard, or motherboard video slots. Need a full scale checkup

Test the ram in another computer to confirm its not the problem. Replace the CMOS battery as those are cheap, and can die.Which can mean no bios screen

Won't be worth testing the CPU on another system, there is a risk it could get damaged too.
Try plugging your PC and monitor into another outlet, press the auto button on the monitor to see if it is working now

Get a new motherboard since you've already got a new psu, and the monitor is supposed to be working

This may not be the place to ask, but I've been out of the game for a while. I currently have a ASUS z87-c MOBO. Do you have a recommendation for a cheap mobo that will have the same feature set as my current one?

My mother board came in today. I hooked it all up and everything seems fine. The fans are all working. I have lights on the motherboard and GPU. The Q-code is 23 (this isn't an option in the manual so I'm not sure what it means). However, I don't hear a beep on power up (not sure if this is good or bad).

I still have only a black screen, no bios, etc.

I'm pretty discouraged now, anyone have an idea?
