Hi,
im currently using a windows 7 ultimate 64bit...i installed it after setting up my new hardware which included a motherboard, processor and RAM...so i had to install all the drivers (including the graphics card driver ) manually...now i have the chance to upgrade my OS to a win 8.1...my question is,can i do it without having to clean format the hdd partition that has my current OS and reinstall all the drivers again?
also, i have a load of games like the witcher 3,far cry 4 etc installed...will i have to re-install them too?
Thanks

Solution
You could, but the reason why you should backup the games to an external is because there are times where during an upgrade, the windows.old folder did not include certain files/games

It is just in case so you wouldn't have this problem later on

From personal experience, if you transfer the program files folder with the original game inside there wouldn't be dll errors

You would have a functioning computer after going to windows 8.1. However, if you do something like plug in usb3.0 and it doesn't work, go to the official motherboard site to download the drivers for that correct version of windows

You can transfer those large games to an external drive so you can transfer them back after clean installing windows 8.1

As for the drivers, yes you would have to reinstall some of them but not all

To be able to upgrade 8.1 to 10, you need to update to the latest version through windows update. One of those windows updates notify you about windows 10

Win 7 will upgrade to ten directly .

There is no point using the 8 disk at all .

Al your drivers will be fine
