I recently got a new PC and it has an i5 2550k clocked stock at 3.4 ghz. I did some overclocking in the bios and overclocked it to 4.0 ghz. It was like that for a day and the next when i turned my pc on i checked the clock speed and it was clocked at 6.0 + ghz!! I'm not sure how that even happened, but my PC still runs at 30 celcius when idle and 40 when playing games. Even though it stays at 40 celcius, is this safe?

Solution
Yeah, somethings wrong with that task manager, look at hardware monitor, it says your cpu is at 4.2 ghz, Which is probably the correct reading, your computer would not function right if your cpu was really at 7+ ghz.

I open my task manager - go to performance - and look under cpu and it shows a jump between 5-6.5 ghz...

I have Windows 8 for reference. When I open task manager there's a tab at the top called performance and at the bottom right under CPU it jumps between 5 - 6.5 GHz.
