How to upgrade from a non-genuine copy

Solution
No!! Don't enter the new license key into this version of Windows. You are asking for trouble.

Fresh install the OS and enter the key when prompted (or go to the Computer Properties and enter it there).

No one can guarantee you that. With a price that high, you are better off buying a fresh copy from amazonhttp://www.amazon.com/Windows-8-1-System-Builder-64-Bit/dp/B00F3ZN2W0/ref=sr_1_2?s=software&ie=UTF8&qid=1435729388&sr=1-2&keywords=Windows+8

Note that your CPU must be 64-bit capable to use that OS I listed in that link. If it is not, use the 32-bit version

I do have a 64bit CPU, but I didn't wanted to wait for the DVD (since I'm outside the US), isn't there any way I can get a digital one?

EDIT: Oh, and what does it mean when it says OEM? I'd like to make a clean install probably twice a year, can it be done with that key?

Yes you can practically get it digitally through the windows site (the setup file)
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media

Once you do, reinstall windows with the genuine version (above) afterwards, buy the key and activate it
(Can be done through phone support or within windows)

Edit: OEM is tied to the motherboard you installed It on. BUT the site states you must purchase a DVD for windows 8.1 first so it has risk with it. There is no risk when you buy it from amazon

Once you have a valid Key, you plug it in, and windows will validate it, and within a couple seconds it will accept or reject it.

The problem is that Microsoft wants you to use 8.1 right now. They do not even list 8.0 as an option anymore.

Just buy a copy from a retailer. Overnight it if you need it that fast. Downloading it is going to take almost as long as delivery.

Or wait 4 weeks, and buy Windows 10.

metalrenok the OEm means that the windows was installed on the computer at the time of manufacture.
A lot of computer sales stores and repair shops have been selling the OEm keys and they aren't valid.
