Putting a used hard drive into a computer - now problems with the original one

Hi. I recently had one of my desktop PCs die on me. It didn't really work right for a while, so I figured it was time for it to go anyways. So, I wanted to get the data off of the hard drive, and from research on the internet I found out that it would be fine to put it right next to the existing one in the other computer. Upon starting the working computer up, it told me that my memory configuration had changed, and it proceeded to run checkdisk on it. Since this took some time, I left it there to finish. When I got back, it had booted windows from the other drive - the one I had just put in. So I gathered the things I wanted to save and put them on a USB, then restarted the computer and changed the boot priority back to the original drive of that computer. Now it says "Preparing Automatic Repair" and gets stuck in this loop of trying to repair the drive. Anyone know of any solutions to this besides resetting the whole hard drive? Also, I know it's doing this to the original drive of the computer, not the one from the dead computer, as it is in Windows 8 format instead of windows 7.

Also, I've been trying to do some of the advanced options, but they claim that they require an administrator account, and for some reason my account is not showing (even though it is an administrator account)
