That platform is not worth spending any money on, no matter what you "upgrade" you are still going to have a old, slower system. You will burn money with very little reward.

Also really depends on the type of games your playing. MMO's for instance rely heavily on your CPU, while sandbox and platformers tend to rely more on a solid GPU. If you do one at a time I would go with a new GPU first, the 8800's were great but just don't have the capacity for newer games to run well. Until you upgrade your CPU however whatever graphics card you get (modern that is) will be bottlenecked by it and your system memory.
