spilled water on pc

hey ryt well iv just spilled water all over my desk and dripped down onto my tower and trough some little holes on the top and dripped onto my gfx card, i turned it off quickly dried it out and turned it back on, i tried to play a game got a error message, tried to play a game again and working ok as of yet i havnt had any faults, is their anything i can do to test if iv fried my gfx card or wa. please help its a gtx 770

Most likely it is damaged. Call the video card company for RMA (not sure if it is covered? But if it is you can get a replacement one for free)


I wouldn't put a wet graphics card in the PC, it can and will damaged other components

Hi

How did you dry the graphics card ?

If it is really completely dry then play games ( which stress the card) you are familiar with and see if it performs correctly. Without smell of burning, or visible screen artefacts

No warrantee or guarantee will cover water damage, house hold insurance with accidental damage terms may cover the cost if it is damaged

Clean water will evaporate ,
but fizzy drinks, soft drinks, fruit juice tea or coffee are much more difficult to remove

You could dry the card using a hair dryer , or Leave in a warn dry environment for a few days or use dry rice or silica gel to absorb water vapour

If they find a shorted out PCB due to water damage, which is apparent on PCBs, they wont refund you or send you a new card. Its not a good idea to lie to the company that backs their customers in case of actual RMA worthy damage.

The fact the card boots is a good sign however, normally if a card was damaged they wont even boot.
Run something like MSI afterburner/kombustor and see if it can handle it, I dont recommend Furmark as its unrealistically demanding. OCCT is also another good utility.

see i dried it off with a towel then turned my fan on to full speed and put it in front of the fan, it was only a little splash onto the top of the gfc card i think thats all i seen, iv tried that fur test and my temps went to about 81c that seems high to me but iv jsut played a game of fifa and it ran fine

It landed in a location, or there was so little of it, that there was no short before you were able to remove power from the card. It evaporated when you dried it and now there is no residual moisture, and the card works. 81C isnt terribly bad for that kind of stress, so thats not related to the water.

Card works, no damage appears to have been done. If it starts to throw errors again, you know why.

well my screen started going a little dodgy then a soon as i realised i quickly unplugged everything and dried it off to the best i could fingers crossed i havnt had another error, any idea of how long i should stress test it for to see if it can handle the stress and if its still working fine ?
