Ive been comparing video cards for weeks now. As far as a more affordable alternative to the 700 series it seems that the GTX 660 is on par with the 760. Hell the 680 and 690 seem to blast it out of the water. So is it better or is the architecture in the 600 series better then the 700??

Those two cards are still based on 28nm Kepler core. The performance difference between the two cards will be 15-25% depending on games. The 760 is the faster card albeit it draws slightly more power it is the better purchase overall. Just be sure to get the one with aftermarket cooling and not the reference model, unless you really want one, also it would be a good idea to check if you have an adequate power supply to run the card.

The 760 is a newer card than the 660. they are on the same mid tier level. the 760 replaced the 660. The 680 and 690 were high end cards, so that just means: Old high end card> New mid range card. If you are looking at cards in the mid level check out the GTX 960 or R9 280X, Both very good cards for the price
