From researching around the web, I found out how you are able to bypass the DNS settings that are configured on the router by naming the DNS servers you want to use on your PC. Supposedly, the PC DNS settings override the router's DNS settings by using Port 53. Problem is, my PC settings aren't overriding the router's at all.

I have tried configuring my DNS settings from Windows and Linux and yet I still get to the same problem.

The router is a Netgear WNR2000v3.

The DNS setting that are on the router uses OpenDNS servers that have parental controls set on "high". I am merely trying bypass these blocks so I can access certain websites.

The methods I have tried are listed on this website: WikiHow

I thought it was easy too but for some reason I can't get it to work despite doing this step by step.

Is it against the rules even though it is my own router?

if its your own router you wouldnt need to bypass open dns now would you?

For this, you would ask the person who has set the specific restrictions on the router.
If they are not amenable, you are out of luck until such time as you can get your own internet, on your own account, paid for out of your own wallet.

Tome Hardware forum rules specifically prohibit assisting with circumventing blocks such as this.

Closing this.
