High end Gaming Rig and games still laggy

So I recently bought this pc

with a help of a friend who knows more about Gaming Rigs than I do, and assured me it will run pretty much any game on full graphics smoothly. However, most games I play, I have to lower them to their most basic setting to just work. I have updated the drivers as much as I can. Is there any reason or something I need to do to get it to where its supposed to be?

Can you confirm that your computer is using the gtx 970, and not the intel integrated graphics?

No, not at all. when you right click your desktop, open nvidia control panel (if its there) then go to the manage 3D settings, then open the drop down menu for Global Settings. Select the High-performance NVIDIA processor as your preferred graphics processor and click Apply.

That should switch from using the inter integrated graphics to the gtx 970 IF your computer is using the intel graphics.

Hmm i do that and an error pops up saying
NVIDA Display settings are not avaiable.
You are not currently using a display attached to an NVIDIA GPU.

Well then, if your fine opening your case, take off the left side panel or just look through the window. Can you see the gtx 970, and if so, can you see the power cables running from the psu to the card?

connect ur display cable to your gpu not your mother board.. just check that behind cpu

Ok, so make sure your monitor cable is connected to the graphics card, and not the motherboard. If it is connected to the motherboard, then turn off your computer, plug the cable into the card, and reboot.

haha.. thats one mistake mostly everyone will do atleast once in their life.. now update your drivers.. and u will be seeing heaven through your monitor.. happy gaming..
