Dear Experts!

I´ve got an old computer with a Fujitsu D3041-A1 mainboard. two weeks ago i replaced the harddisk with a Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD. i used the Samsung Software to clone the harddisk. the old system was slow, but stable before. ;-)

after replacing the harddisk i got random freezes, reboots, bluescreens.

this is what i´ve done to solve the problems yet:

- installed the newest chipset drivers for: "intel n10/ich7 family serial ata storage controller 27c0"
(the newest version is from 8/2009 :fou: )
- updated all other system drivers (network, vga, sound, etc.) (Driver Booster)
- deactivated: LPM in energy options and installed fixssd.reg (Registry-Hack: http://blogs.visigo.com/chriscoulson/ssd-freezing-fix/)
- deactivated any power management
- updated bios

but system is still rebooting/freezing/"bluescreening" randomly - about 1-2 times per day.

any ideas how to solve that?

the bios does not offer any AHCI options, so i think about buying a new sata PCI Controller. will the computer boot from this pci-controller, if i attach my SSD?

thank you, Holger

Solution
Hey there, Holger.

Well, you could always try a fresh install of Windows, to see if this continues (or try repairing it). I know that it's a lot of a hassle, but clones don't always work out as they should. Besides that, after a BSOD you should get minidump files, have you tried analyzing them with a tool to see what's the probable culprit? Try a different SATA port and cable, to see if the same thing happens. You could also try the SSD with a different computer, to see if the issue persists. Usually when there are similar problems, sometimes switching to AHCI instead of IDE (if this wasn't set before for some reason), can fix the issue. Unfortunately if your BIOS doesn't support AHCI, this wouldn't be changed by a PCI controller...

Ultimately you could get in touch with the mobo's customer support and ask about it's compatibility with SSD drives (and your model in particular).

Hope that helps.

if forgot to mention: i already tried to change the sata port, but it hasn´t solved the issue.

Thank you! i´ll try to contact the mainboard vendor first!
