I have an Acer Aspire laptop which is about 2 years old. The motherboard is shot, I think. I took it to someone to look at ($40 for the diagnosis which is applied to any fix he may do) but he doesn't have high hopes.

My question at this point is would it be cheaper at this point to fix it by replacing the motherboard or to just buy a whole new laptop? Data recovery is not an issue as the hard drive is undamaged and all my data is intact. Power cord and adapter work fine. I heard motherboards can be expensive so wanted a tech's opinion.

The motherboards inside laptops are usually proprietary so can only be bought from the manufacturer directly (Acer). Ask Acer how much a replacement is as sometimes they are more expensive than a new laptop and sometimes they aren't. It's a case by case thing so contact Acer to see if a replacement is even available and if it is, what it costs. Hope this helps.

Sorry for the massively late response. I honestly forgot about this thread.

I ended up getting a new laptop and transferred all my data. The motherboard ended up costing almost as much as the new laptop did.

Thanks for the response though.
