I have an HP Pavilion dv7 with Windows 8.1. Purchased Samsung 850 Pro. Cloned SSD with my HDD. Replaced HDD with new SSD drive. Can't boot. BIOS doesn't seem to recognize SSD. Assuming this model laptop won't and BIOS won't recognize SSD. Any fixes?

I used "Paragron Migrate OS to SSD 4.0" - https://www.paragon-software.com/technologies/components/migrate-OS-to-SSD/ - the paid version. Problem seems to be that the BIOS doesn't see this SSD drive. Read somewhere that this model won't recognize an SSD over 100 - but can't find anything on HP that goes into this detail.

I ended up using the software that came with the Samsung 850 Pro. It made a clone of the existing drive successfully. I had to use my Windows 8.1 Boot USB and select Repair Disk which made some adjustments to the partitions. At that point, everything worked. The only downside is that the recovery partition was too small and I was no longer able to make a Disk "Image". I can't resize the recovery partition to 50MB since the free space is not contiguous to the recovery partition. I might be able to do something with a professional software like Partition Magic, but don't feel like going to this much trouble or expenditure. My laptop had no significant data since it pulls from a central server. The SDD is blazingly fast, and I'm happy with it. I would consider this issue closed and thank everyone for their input.
