Serious question about UPS (Uninteruptable Power Supply)

Ok, I have a few questions if anyone wouldn't mind taking the time to answer them.

1. Will this UPS be right for my computer.

2. Does that UPS I linked above also provide Surge Protection?

3. Could that UPS Harm My Hardware, The reason I ask this is because of this comment left by a customer who bought it.

[Below is the comment from a customer on newegg who purchased the UPS]

"It fried my ASRock x99x motherboard.

Other Thoughts: The only thing that changed is I unplugged it from my surge protector and plugged it into this UPS. Right when I powered on, it let out the magic smoke from the VRM area. This is a brand new machine I just built a few weeks ago, with absolutely no problems before I plugged it into this UPS. No clue if my 5820k cpu is fried either."

I Live in the states, In Florida. During this time of year my power cuts on and off randomly even when there is no bad weather.
I am afraid that this Blackouts or Brownouts will harm my computer.

Trust me I really wish I didnt have to spend the money I dont have on a UPS, But If it saves My GPU and CPU then I am fine with it.

Honestly, with a quality PSU, all you need is a decent surge protector, thats it. No need for a UPS at all. Power outages don't damage computers, SURGES do. And those don;t happen in the states much at all. You will be fine. Blackouts and brownouts do not harm PCs with even moderately high quality PSUs.

Unfortunately your PSU is not very good quality. I would replace the PSU with a proper one and call it a day.

I have that exact UPS and its great, the software works good, it puts out more than enough wattage for your build. Also the front panel display is nice tells you a lot of info like how many watts your stuff is drawing. Yes it has surge protection and its also pure sine wave so it provides the "cleanest" power signal and you won't have to worry about your PC blinking out when it switches over. Highly recommended.

I don't mean to sound rude but I don't agree with this advice at all. Try yanking the power from your PC enough times, the hard drive loves it. You are correct surges are what causes physical damage to components, but a UPS with shutdown software will help prevent you corrupting your data, and also give you 15 minutes to save your work or game or whatever.

So the only thing that can be damaged by a Blackout or Brownout is the hard drive? Im not as worried about my hard drive as I am my more expensive hardware( GPU, MOtherBoard, CPU)

Not failures, corrupted data. I have seen plenty of decently built PCs that the hard drive works perfectly fine, but sectors are corrupted because it was in the middle of a write cycle. And you can't dispute the convenience factor I mentioned.

With a good surge protector a blackout or brownout won't do any physical damage to your computer hardware. The concern is data corruption on your hard drive, and losing your work or whatever you're doing at the time.

That makes me feel much better. I Guess I have time to save up some more cash before I go out and buy the UPS. I have an additional backup HDD so If anything happens to the current HDD then I should be fine.
