Hi, I need to use an old SSD that I used for windows and make it ready for an Ubuntu installation. I can currently boot to windows on another SSD or to Ubuntu from a flash drive. What exactly do I need to do to accomplish this? Do I need to wipe out the old data? Do I need to repartition? What is the best way to do this?

Also, once I have Ubuntu installed on the SSD I want to be able to chose to boot to SSD windows or SSD Ubuntu. On which drive should I put the Ubuntu Boot Loader?

Solution
Go to disk management and shrink the Windows partition. How much you shrink it depends on how much space you want Ubuntu to have. After that, do nothing.

When you're installing Ubuntu (I assume 14.04), it will make a partition out of the unallocated space you left behind. Remember to set the mount point as "/" though, otherwise you'll get a big fat error when you hit that install button.

Thanks Woody. I was asking about using the entire disk for Ubuntu so, no need to shrink anything. I figured it out though. Thanks again.

My problem was that I didn't understand that the "change" button on the left of the installation window allows you to set the parameters for the drive so, I chose the file system there and the size of the partition. Also, I created a "swap area" partition double the size of the amount of RAM the machine has.
